Finish Strong!

Written by
Hi 2nd grade parents! It's amazing to think the end of the year is already around the corner! It is important to keep our students focused and finishing strong! In Math, we are getting deeper into multiplication and mixed numbers. We are still getting timed on our math facts every day so it is important that we continue to practice those at home. The students are a little intimidated by the mixed numbers, but they are continuing to move along! Please keep working with your child at home as well. In Writing, the students have been exposed to many different types of writing. They are currently working on response poem. They are working on rhyming and working a lot with partners. In Reading, the students are currently learning different vowel teams that make the same sound, contractions, and inferencing. Recently we have also been spending a lot of time on…

Freezing February!

We are still in the midst of winter! The temperature will rise and fall, but it is still quite cold out! Please be sure you are still backing the essentials for your child: hat, gloves, boots, scarves, big coats, snow pants, etc.! January was a great month - it was LONG, but it was full of progress and rigor! In Math, we have been reviewing our facts every day and making sure that we are finishing at least one side of our sheet in two and a half minutes or less. We have just begun subtraction. It will seem quite easy right now for most students because we are only subtracting 0, 1, and 2. However, it will get harder! We will get to 9's and then double digits! The students have also been testing on 100 facts! They have been doing remarkably well. We are trying to finish 100 facts…

Hello there, 2nd grade parents! I can't believe the end of the year is here. It went so quickly! I couldn't have asked for a more differentiated, fun, independent group of kiddos! It was such a pleasure having them this year. Thank you for all your help and support! I couldn't have gone through the year without you and your WONDERFUL children. I wish everyone a fun and SAFE summer! These kids are more than ready for 3rd grade. I am sad to see them go, but very excited to see what the future holds for each of them. Please keep in contact with me if you ever have any questions about anything! I'll be in Taiwan this summer running a summer day camp with Maddie Russo, the 4th grade teacher. This was a fantastic opportunity that we just couldn't pass up. I will be thinking of the kids every…

2nd Grade Blog

Hi 2nd Grade parents! Hope you have been enjoying listening to the silly stories your 2nd grade children have been telling me the past week and a half - I sure have!   Let's look at a little of what we have gone over the past week and a half, and what is to come for the next couple of weeks.   In Math, we have been conquering the students' calendar skills. Each day we write the date, count by 1's and 10's, talk about the temperature outside and then input it on our "temperature graph," and count how many students are present/absent, as well as how many students are eating the school's lunch versus the students who brought lunch from home. Other things we have been trying to master are our "doubles addition facts" such as 2+2, 3+3, 4+4. We have been working on those for the past 3 days or so. We also have…
