A look at December

Written by

Happy December!  We have a lot to look forward this month in 5th grade!

We will be doing 2 more lesson this month!  The first lesson will start on Dec. 3rd. We will take a spelling and vocabulary test on Dec. 9th, and students' packets for the lesson will also be due on the 9th.  The second lesson will begin on Dec. 10th, but since we will be missing a few days of Reading for field trips, we will not take our comprehension, grammar, vocab, and spelling tests until Dec. 18th.  Students will be given class time to work on their reading seat work packets, but are expected to complete them for homework if they do not finish them in class.  These packet also contain a list of students' spelling and vocab words for the lesson.

We will have 2 writing projects this month!  The first on will begin this Wednesday and will be due next Thursday (Dec. 11th).  The second will begin on Dec. 10th and will be due Dec. 18th!  Make sure to check with your student about what types of writing we are working on each week!

In religion this month we will be looking at a variety of topics, but with a particular focus on the Advent and Christmas seasons. These are very important times for the Catholic Church.  It is a wonderful time to have a conversation at home about these seasons and the true reason why we celebrate them.

In math we are on track to have at least 1 if not 2 more tests.  Students should continue to practice their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts each night.  It is essential that students have a speedy recall of these basic facts in order to efficiently complete many of the types of problems we work on in class.  These facts are also assessed on our Power Up Quizzes that go along with each test.
