A lot is happening as we get ready for colder temperatures and the holidays! Here is what is going on in Ms. Campbell’s classes…
8th grade math- We have been working with algebraic equations and will continue that into November and until Christmas break. The students have been doing very well and picking up on new concepts quickly. The last test for this trimester will be on Tuesday, November 3rd. November 16th, the start of Trimester 2 will also be a test day, which means the first grade for trimester 2 will be a test grade! I will hand out study guides in advance to study to ensure students understand the material and do well on their tests.
8th Language- We have been working on poetry for the past couple of weeks and will continue poetry until the end of the trimester. 8th Graders will have a poetry test to wrap up the unit and then preform a dramatic reader’s theater of one of William Shakespeare’s plays to end the trimester. After poetry, we will work on persuasive writing.
Reading- Next week, we will start The Maze Runner, a thriller by James Dashner. The students have done very well with the other two novels this trimester, and The Maze Runner will take us into second trimester as well. We will focus on plot and character development with this novel and their final project will be a comparison essay between the novel and the recently released movie! Please ensure that your child is reading every night. They should have homework for reading almost every night and it is important that they keep up with the reading, as not to get bogged down at the end of a novel. Please let me know if you have any questions.
8th Religion- We recently started Chapter 4: Our Roles as Christians. This chapter focuses on Jesus’ role in our lives, as well as our role in other people’s lives. Soon, the students will start practicing for their Advent Prayer Service, which will be held on December 1. Also, students will work with their Kindergarten buddies to put on the Live Nativity on December 16. When we are not busy preparing for those prayer services, we will continue working out of the book and testing with each chapter!
6th Language- We have been working on poetry for the past couple of weeks and will continue poetry until the end of the trimester. 6th Graders will have a poetry project to wrap up the unit, which will be due on November 12th. Guidelines for that will be sent home next week. After poetry, we will get into grammar and mechanics, which we will focus on until Christmas Break. We will start with subjects and predicates, and move into sentence structure and punctuation closer to Christmas time. Additionally, we will continue with spelling every week!
