January was such a busy month, but we learned a lot and had fun doing it! Here is what's in store for February... 8th Math: Students will continue learning algebra and geometry concepts. We are almost at Lesson 60, which is halfway through the book. Students will continue to have a test after every 5 lessons and an investigation after every 10 lessons. Please make sure your student is doing their homework every night! 8th Language: We have been focusing a lot on grammar this past month. We will continue to work with grammar by learning interjections, conjunctions, and adverbs. After spring break, we will embark on our finial writing assignmet, which will be a research paper. Spelling will continue as usual, having 20 words on every 'normal' week. 8th Religion: Students have been busy learning about Church history, which is the focus of 8th grade religion. Soon, we will start practicing for the Living Stations, which will be held on Good Friday (March 25) at 2:00 pm. Also, students will start Theology of the Body with Deb Ryan. A parent letter will be sent home soon. Please mark your calanders for March 8, as there will be a parent meeting at 6:30 in my room to talk about what the students will be learning in Theology of the Body over the next 10 weeks. Reading: We are finishing up the book Ungifted. That will take us to the end of the 2nd trimester. Then, students will have an independent book unit, where we focus on themes of literature through different novels of the students' choosing. We will end the year with our Holocaust novel, Between Shades of Gray. 6th Language: Students have been working hard in class on grammar units. We are working with adjectives and the students have done a lot with their textbooks, outside sources, and real world applications. They are really getting the hang of grammar! We will end the year with a research paper unit, where students will learn how to do research, how to cite sources, and the importance of note taking! Spelling will continue as usual. Important Dates: Feb 1-5 Catholic Schools' Week Feb 12: Valentine's Day Parties and end of trimester 2 Feb 16, 17, 18 Conferences Feb 18-19: No School Feb 24: Early Dismissal -Ms. Campbell
