8th Math- We are moving along very well! We have moved into the geometry portion of the book, so things are getting more difficult in a different way. Students should have 25 problems of homework almost every night, and we still have a test every 5 lessons, with an investigation after every 10. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding math or math placements for next year!
8th Language- Students have been working on grammar and parts of speech. We have also had the pleasure of working with Mr. Heger to learn more about the stock market and how it works. He will continue to come in until the first week of April. The students have been doing a great job! After spring break, we will start to work on research papers. I will be walking through each step of the process with them, but it's not too early to start thinking about what they want to write about! Spelling will continue until the end of the year on 'regular weeks'.
8th Religion- We have been working really hard on practicing and preparing for the Living Stations of the Cross. In the midst of that, we have snuck in a few chapters in the book and will continue to work through that. After chapter 9 (the next chapter), the students will have their unit 3 test, which is a test over the past 3 chapters. They will be able to use notes and previous tests. Students will also start theology of hte body on March 29th. There is a parent meeting in my room on March 8 at 6:30. Deb Ryan will be leading the meeting and going over important information about what the kids will learn in the 10 week TOB program. At least one parent is encouraged to attned!
8th Reading- Right now, students are working on an independent reading unit. For this unit, students haven chosen a book they are interested in and we come together as a class to discuss themes, literary elements, and have literature circles with other students in the class. After this unit wraps up, we will start our Holocaust unit with the book "Betweeen Shades of Gray", which follows a young Russian girl during the Holocaust. That unit should take us to the end of the year!
6th Language- We have been working hard on grammar and parts of speech. Right now, students are learning about adverbs and how they work in sentences. After spring break, we will put everything together in the form of a research project. That will take us to the end of the year, or near the end of the year! I will help students through each step in the process, but it is not too early to start thinking about a topic they may be interested in researching for the last two months of the school year! We will continue with spelling as long as time allows. Let me know if you have any questions!
Happy spring, everyone!
