Happy November! Here is a look at what is happening in Ms. Ramaekers’ classes this month: Algebra: In Algebra, we have been focusing on solving equations with one variable. In addition to our regular lesson schedule, we will be preparing for the midterm that Dowling gives to all 8th grade Algebra students in the diocese. This will be taken shortly before Christmas break, and it is a multiple choice exam. Reading: We will be finishing Freak the Mighty during the first two weeks of November. Students will have a final test over the book and will complete one of several project options. Our next book will be Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. We will be focusing on the themes of friendship and racism within the context of this historical fiction text. 7th Grade Religion: We are currently in Unit 2, entitled “The Meaning of the Kingdom. We will be studying what Jesus teaches us about the Kingdom of God through parables, vocations, and the Beatitudes. On November 11th, we will be making a pilgrimage to two Holy Door locations in Des Moines (St. Ambrose Cathedral and the Basilica of St. John), which will be a meaningful way for student to participate in the Church’s Year of Mercy. 6th Grade Science: We are currently finishing up our “Weather and Water” unit. Students will be taking a cumulative final exam over this unit on Tuesday, November 8th. They will be given a study guide on Monday, October 31st, so they will have ample time to prepare for this test. During the 2nd trimester, we will be studying “Electronics!” 7th Grade Science: We are currently finishing up our “Earth History” unit. Students will be taking a cumulative final exam over this unit on Tuesday, November 8th. They will be given a study guide on Monday, October 31st, so they will have ample time to prepare for this test. During the 2nd trimester, we will be studying “Chemical Interactions!” 8th Grade Science: We are currently finishing up our “Planetary Science” unit. Students will be taking a cumulative final exam over this unit on Tuesday, November 8th. They will be given a study guide on Monday, October 31st, so they will have ample time to prepare for this test. They also will have a group planet project due on Thursday, November 10th. Guidelines for this project were given to them on Friday, October 28th. During the 2nd trimester, we will be studying “Force and Motion!” Important Dates: November 11th: Field Trip to Holy Doors; End of 1st Trimester November 23rd-27th: Thanksgiving Break! (No School)
