Music Notes!

Sign up now to register your young musician for classes in piano, bells, and band! Piano lessons are available for students in grades 1-8. Weekly lessons are 30 minutes in length. Students will have the opportunity to play at all-school masses and other recitals throughout the year. Weekly classes in handbells are approximately 40 minutes in length. These ensembles perform frequently throughout the year and go on a performance tour throughout the Des Moines area every December to share musical Christmas Joy. There are two bands at St. Joseph. The Beginning (Blue) Band is for 4th & 5th grade (beginning) students. Students in this ensemble rehearse as a full band weekly for 40 minutes and each have a weekly 30 minute individual or group lesson. Band, Bells, and Bach October 2014

The Blue (beginning) Band has been working very hard during their first month together as an ensemble. Students have been  learning “The 3 B’s” (Band Body Basics) and the art of rehearsal discipline.  This ensemble just began working on an arrangement of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” called “Rock Star”, which is their first full page of sheet music.  Students rehearse as a full band on Thursdays at 11:50-12:35 and each student receives a group or individual 30-minute lesson on Thursday as well. Members of the Blue Band are: Stephanie, flute Blanche, clarinet Kelcie, alto saxophone Addison, trumpet Dominic, trumpet Everett, baritone --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Gold (advanced) Band just had their first performance on September 26 at Dowling when they played “Salute to Freedom”, “National Anthem”, and “Dowling Victors” with students from other Catholic schools. This ensemble rehearses together on Wednesdays from 11:05-11:35 and receives a small group or individual 30-minute lesson on Wednesdays. Instrumental Music Notes

The Bell Choirs have been working very hard on preparing for their upcoming performance at Courtyard Estates in Bondurant.  The Rainbow Ringers will be performing "Saviour, Like a Shepherd, Lead Us", "I've Got Peace Like a River", and "Amazing Grace".  The Rainbows have been gotten to play the Tone Chimes during some of their rehearsals.  The Heavenly Chimes have been learning some new music such as "Immortal, Invisible, God only Wise", and "How Great Thou Art", as well as polishing old pieces like "Let There Be Peace on Earth" and "The Cherry Blossom Song".  The Sensational Six have been working on multi-movement pieces which teach them dotted rhythms.  The Bell Choirs will be performing on May 1 at 10:30am.   The St. Joseph Bands have now combined into one larger band.  Students are getting ready for their upcoming concert at St. Anthony School on April 24th.  Pieces they will be performing are "Gimme Some Lovin'", "Armed Forces…

Band, Bells, and Bach

  Welcome back to another year at St. Joseph School!  I hope you all had a restful summer and are now ready for another exciting year in Band, Bells, and Bach (piano)! Registration forms are available on the St. Joseph web site.  Please sign up now to enroll. The deadline for enrollment is August 28th.  Here is some important information about the instrumental music program:       Band   Just like last year, we will have two concert bands.  The beginning band will be called the Blue Band and the Advanced Band (students who have played for at least one year) will be called the Gold Band.  In addition to the two concert bands, we will be adding an ensemble called the “Jazz 4 Jesus” Jazz Band.  “Jazz 4 Jesus” is open to any student who already plays in the Gold Band.     The rehearsals for these ensembles…
