Homework: Help and Hints for Parents

Why is Homework Important?

For Children

Teachers assign homework to help children learn.  It is a way for children to:

  • Explore subjects more fully than time permits in the classroom.

  • Review and practice what they have learned.

  • Develop independent study skills.

  • Get ready for the next day’s class.

  • Develop self-discipline and responsibility.

    For Parents

Homework provides and opportunity for parents to:

  • Share with their child the importance of education and learning.

  • Support what is taking place in the classroom.

  • See what their child is learning on a day-to-day basis and monitor their progress.

  • Encourage a love of learning by recognizing their child’s strengths and successes.

    Responsibilities of Students

  • Be sure you understand and know how to do the assignment before leaving school.

  • Have the necessary materials needed to complete the homework.

  • Take care of and return to school the books needed at home to complete the homework.

  • Practice the skills learned in class.

  • Use good study skills and work independently.

  • Strive for the best quality of work that you can do.

  • Complete and return assignments on time.

I hope to see you at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Thank you for your help and support, Ms. Farrell
